British Procedurals

  • British Procedurals

The police procedural is a sub-genre of detective fiction. It emphasizes the investigative procedure of a police as opposed to a private investigator or ama-teur sleuth. Unlike traditional mysteries where the criminal’s identity is concealed until the narrative climax, police procedurals often reveal the perpetrators identity to the reader early in the narrative, making it an inverted detective story where the focus is more on how to catch the perpetrator, rather than on figuring out “who done it.” Police procedurals try to accurately depict such police-related topics as forensics, au-topsies, gathering evidence, search war-rants, interrogation, and adherence to legal restrictions and procedure.*
