Rules of Conduct
PURPOSE
To provide an environment in which all patrons may have a pleasant and positive library experience and to safeguard the library building, collection and grounds. This list is not meant to be inclusive but rather a guideline to be used along with common sense.
The M. G. Parker Library welcomes everyone to use Library facilities and resources for learning, reading, studying, writing, and obtaining information.
The following behaviors which interfere with library services and activities are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:
- 1. Conversation audible levels which disturb other patrons. Additionally, engaging other patrons in unwanted conversations. (MGL Ch.272, Sec 41).
- 2. Cell phone use.
- 3. Abusive, threatening, or offensive language.
- 4. Soliciting or surveying other patrons.
- 5. Distributing literature, selling, or any mass distribution of materials.
- 6. Listening devices whose volume is deemed disturbing by other patrons or staff.
- 7. Sleeping in the library.
- 8. Lying on sofas or sharing chairs and the placement of feet or shoes on the furniture; additionally rearranging the furniture without permission.
- 9. Disruptive behavior including but not limited to running, congregating around computers, entrances, restrooms, stairways.
- 10. Engaging in sexual conduct, boisterous behavior, loitering, skateboarding, or rollerblading.
- 11. Bare feet or bare chests.
- 12. Bathing or laundering.
- 13. Alcohol, smoking or illegal drugs that can be consumed, bought, sold etc. (MGL Ch.270, Sec 22).
- 14. Animals except for service animals.
- 15. Food or drinks during planned programs without prior approval.
- 16. Parking of bikes on the property except on the bike rack with owner supplied lock, which is strongly suggested.
- 17. Use of false identification to obtain a library card or use of another person's library card without permission. (MGL Ch.266, Sec.99A).
The Library reserves the right to prosecute any patron defacing or vandalizing any interior or exterior surface or stealing any library material. (MGL Ch. 266, Sec. 100)
