**We ask that patrons check out only a reasonable number of books on a single subject at one time. The library reserves the right limit items to three per subject for school projects.

Please note: Library cards can not be issued within 15 minutes of closing. You MUST have your library card in order to check out materials and card must be free of overdues and fines.Books on the Summer Reading lists may NOT be renewed.

During the hours that the library is open, please return items inside at the Circulation desk rather than using the outside drops. Items left in the drops during the day will be checked in the following morning and may be subject to an additional day's late fee.

The Book-Drop and Video-Drop are located on the wall to the right of the main entrance. Please return videos, CDs, CD-ROMS, and audio tapes in the Video-Drop. Dropping them in the Book-Drop could damage them and result in a $5.00 fine and replacement fee.

Hot Item Collection - NO holds, NO Renewals, NO Requests. If you see it on the shelf, take it home. Hot Items are marked with an Orange Sticker. The borrowing time is short so everyone has a chance at new items. Books and Audio Books go out for 1 week only. DVDs and CD go out for 3 days only.

A Hot Item is a Dracut Only Item. The Item must be returned to the Dracut Library. If it is returned to another library, there will be a fine for the delay in the return. Fines are $1.00 a day for each late item.

Returnable Museum Passes have a $5.00 fee for each day not returned on time. Passes are due by 9:00 am on the next day that the library is open after their date of use.

When an item is checked out, the computer automatically attaches the records of those items to your library barcode number and records the due date of each item. For your convenience, we supply a receipt listing titles and their due dates. Fines are charged on each and every item from the first day it is overdue. They are not charged for any day of an emergency or scheduled/unscheduled closing.

After the 6 week limit a returned item must be shelved before being taken out again. It must remain shelved for 24 hours before being taken out by the borrower who just returned the item.

Overdue fines will not be charged for days that the library is closed - these include holiday closings, emergency closings, Sundays, and Saturdays during summer hours.

Large video fines ($20.00 and up) may be removed by the purchase of a new video from the Library list.

Fines cover costs associated with processing overdues and replacing damaged items. All fine money is put into the revolving fund which goes right back into purchasing materials. Because these fines are based on current costs, donations of books or the volunteering of time, while themselves significant, do not constitute an exchange.

Patrons will be charged the full amount for items with liquid damage. Mold grows rapidly, spreads through the book and then to other items. A patron who has paid for a liquid damaged book may, of course, keep the book.

Replacement Fees for Missing Items:

  • DVD/CD case, insert, or other parts - full replacement cost
  • Video case - $5.00
  • Blue bag - $10.00
  • Processed book cover - $2.00
  • Returnable Museum Pass - full replacement cost
